About Tung Wah Group of Hospitals
　　 Tung Wah Group of Hospitals is a charitable organization in Hong Kong Special Administration Region of the People’s Republic of China, renowned for its century-old history and vast scale of operation. Since its establishment in 1870, TWGHs has been serving the Hong Kong community with medical and health services, education services and community services for more than 130 years. There are more than 200 service units with over 11,000 employees.

　　Tung Wah’s medical and health services aim at providing both western medical and traditional Chinese medicine services to the needy and the poor. Apart from its 5 hospitals (i.e. Tung Wah Hospital, Kwong Wah Hospital, Tung Wah Eastern Hospital, TWGHs Wong Tai Sin Hospital and TWGHs Fung Yiu King Hospital), Tung Wah also operates Chinese medicine general outpatient clinics, Chinese medicine clinical centres, well women clinics, well men clinic, an out-reaching home care services for the elderly and dental health centre for senior citizens.
 
About the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies
　　The World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (“WFCMS”), with the full support from the State Administration of TCM of People’s Republic of China, was founded on 25 September 2003 at Beijing, China. It is an international non-profit academic organization formed by Chinese medicine societies of various countries (and regions) on a voluntary basis. The organization comprises more than 118 member societies of Chinese medicine, academic institutions, senior and honorary members from over 40 different countries/locations around the world including Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Japan, USA, Canada and Australia, etc.

　　The objectives of the WFCMS are to promote the understanding and cooperation among the academic groups of Chinese medicine of the countries (and regions), to strengthen the international academic exchanges, to improve the level of Chinese medicine businesses, to protect and develop Chinese medicine, to help Chinese medicine get into the mainstream medical system of different countries, to propel exchanges and cooperation between Chinese medicine and other medicines in the world and make contributions to the health of mankind.

 
Background For Development
　　TWGHs has been playing an active part in the promotion and modernization of Chinese medicine by the establishment of Information Technology supported Chinese medicine centres, development of comprehensive Chinese medicine clinical information system and support in Chinese medicine clinical research. The effect has been recognized by the increasing attendance and good reputation among the local community.

　　It is believed that Chinese medicine has tremendous potentials in the medical arena. There are many people suffering from various diseases who might wish to seek assistance from Chinese medicine, while do not have or do not know where to locate reliable information.

　　It is therefore felt that TWGHs should take up this mission of further promoting the use of Chinese medicine to the world by the establishment of a “Famous & Prominent Doctors in TCM in China Portal”with the aim of providing comprehensive information of experienced Chinese medicine medical experts in various provinces and cities of Mainland China to those in need of help. With the widespread use of the internet, this portal will be an effective means to provide such an access.

　　The database on doctors and institutions was developed in collaboration with the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS). The purpose is to provide more information on TCM institutions, practitioners and specialties in China. This encourages the exchange of Chinese medicine knowledge among different countries or regions. The project also increases the understanding of Chinese medicine by governments and communities all over the world, offering enquiry services to societies and academia worldwide, providing comprehensive contact information on all famous and experienced Chinese medicine experts in various provinces of China to those who desire this information. The use of Chinese medicine to the world will hence be promoted and will contribute greatly to the well-being of mankind.
